How Scheduled Updates Run
You can change how often each task runs under System → Scheduled Tasks. Most sites should leave "Run automatic updates" hourly and use groups, schedules and windows to say when updates may happen.
| Task | Default schedule | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| AutoPilot Pro - Check for updates | Every 6 hours | Reads the update servers. |
| AutoPilot Pro - Run automatic updates | Every hour | Decides which extensions are due, and installs their updates. |
| AutoPilot Pro - Clean up snapshots and logs | Every day | Applies the snapshot retention rules and deletes old history and log entries. |
| AutoPilot Pro - Weekly digest | Every 7 days | Sends the weekly digest, when it is enabled. |

How a run works. A run does not try to do everything in one request. It works for a short time (20 seconds by default), saves its position, and continues the next time the task is started. A large batch of updates therefore never runs into PHP's time limit. Only one run works at a time. If a run gets stuck, its lock is released after the lock timeout.
